Clinical Effect in Relation ot Lithium Dose and Plasma Level

Abstract
Serum lithium level and clinical efficacy were studied retrospectively with 98 Korean manic patients diagnosed according to DSM-III criteria.
@The results were as follows:
@EN 1) The number of total responder were 76 and the efficacy rate was 77.5%, but the serum lithium level of responder was wide range between 0.4~1.5 mEp/L.
2) lt took in average 7 days to reach the so called steady state of serum lithium level between 0.6~1.2 mEp.L. lt took 2 weeks to reach to 50 GAS score and revealed 0.69¡¾0.29 mEp/L serum lithium level. 1101¡¾261 mg/day lithium dosage. At 3
weeks,
it
revealed 58.78¡¾11.85 GAS score. 0.7¡¾0.24 mEp/L serum lithium level, 1138¡¾325 mg/day lithium dasage.
3) At discharge. It revealed 71.70¡¾10.58 GAS score. 0.70¡¾0.22 mEp/L serum lithium level. 1083¡¾321 mg/day lithium dosage.
Our results suggest that lithium carbonate was effective to treatment of mania and significant positive correlation was obtained between serum level and clinical efficacy but serum lithium level alone is not crucial predictor to determine the
clinical
efficacy.
